Travis Families & Community-

Welcome to October!

As we settle into the fall autumn rhythm, we are quickly approaching the end of our first grading period on October 17. This is an important time to connect with your student about their progress on grades AND attendance. We encourage you to check the parent portal for grade updates and to reach out to teachers with any questions. You can go log in here portal.austinisd.org.

We also want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the parents who have already dedicated their time and energy to our school by participating in the PTSA, the Community Advisory Council (CAC), The Construction (CAT) Team, the Athletic Booster Club, games and other school activities! Your partnership is vital to the success of our students and programs, and we are incredibly grateful for your support. This month we begin English as a Second Language (ESL) classes and also have FAFSA night coming up! Check out the rest of the newsletter for details about all these and more activites!

We're looking forward to a productive and engaging month ahead!

Here are some other REMINDERS:

PARKING off SITE: Our neighbors at Starbucks and the church are reporting issues with parents and students parking on their lots. BE ADVISED: the church will start towing starting this Friday, October 3 so that they can utilize parking for their guests and workers.

Car pick up and drop off is on the side of the building during these hours (see picture below). We ask that all cars drive cautiously and 5 MPH at all times for the safety of our students and community.

CAMPUS PARKING PERMITS:

Students may apply here for permits on campus. They are FREE for the first one http://bit.ly/4f0DfqI

HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH

This month we are celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. The halls are being decorated and several events will occur over this month to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. We are having a door decorating contest, dress up days, and other celebrations throughout the month to honor our Hispanic heritage!

Wednesday October 1st is dress like your favorite Hispanic Artist or historical figure.

ATTENDANCE MATTERS

State requires students to attend school 90% of the time. Help your student meet the standard!

  • Class starts at 9:05 and ends at 4:35.

  • Report absences in writing to Ms. Burrier in the attendance office or send here: https://www.austinisd.org/attendance/report-absence.

  • Have your students SHOW you their attendance. Does it match when you expect them to be present?

  • Students with attendance below 90% are having conferences and parent emails regarding truancy.

CONSENT FOR SERVICES NEEDED

With new legislation, parents must review and sign Consent for students to receive counseling, health services, and participate in Clubs. Please review the details below and click each of the THREE links to sign your choice of consent.

Thank you!

PUT AWAY ALL DAY!

Be Advised!

No Student Personal Device During School Hours

WHY? During the most recent legislative session, Texas Lawmakers passed, and Gov. Greg Abbott signed into law, House Bill 1481, which prohibits students from using personal devices on district premises during school hours.

Items that must now be turned off and put away on Austin ISD campuses from Bell to bell include: Personal cell phones, tablets, gaming devices, smart watches, bluetooth headphones or earbuds, fitness trackers that can send or receive messages, personal (non-district issued) computers (laptops and computers), two-way radios, pagers, any other device capable of digital communication.

What this means for Austin ISD:

  • Devices must be turned off, stored out of sight, and not used during school hours

  • Exceptions will be made for documented medical needs and special educaiton accommodations

  • Violations will result in the confiscation of the item

The law aims to enhance student learning, minimize distractions, and reduce the risk of cyberbullying. We know this change will be most successful when families partner with the school. Your conversations and planning with your child is important to help us implement this law successfully and have a device-free campus during school.

Health Guidelines for School Attendance

We want students at school as much as possible, but sometimes students get sick and need to stay home. Keeping a sick child home protects other children, school staff, and visiting community members from catching an illness that can be spread from person to person.

A student with any of the following symptoms should not attend school:

  • Temperature of 100 degrees or higher

  • Nausea, Vomiting, or Diarrhea

  • Eye redness and/or drainage

  • Undetermined rash and/or scaly patches over any part of the body or scalp

  • Intense itching with signs and symptoms of secondary infection

  • Open, draining lesions

REBEL READY CENTER

Rebel REady center

Dear Parents and Guardians,
Did you know that completing the FAFSA or TASFA is now a graduation requirement for all high school seniors in Texas?

The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and the TASFA (Texas Application for State Financial Aid) help determine how much financial aid your student may receive for college or career school. Completing one of these forms is an important step for your child’s future and is required before they can graduate.

Completing the FAFSA/TASFA requires both student and parent/guardian information. To help guide you, we are hosting a FAFSA Night on:
📅 Tuesday, October 8th
⏰ 5:00 PM - 7:30 PM
📍 Travis ECHS Library

At FAFSA Night, staff will walk you through the application and answer questions. Please bring the necessary documents for both you and your student. You can find a checklist of what to bring here: What information do I need when I fill out the FAFSA or TASFA?
We look forward to seeing you and supporting your student’s journey to graduation and beyond!
Sincerely,
Mr. Jose Dominguez & the Travis ECHS Rebel Ready Center
