Travis Family & Community Newsletter

Your weekly guide to Travis ECHS updates Week of December 2

Hello Travis Families & Community!

Dear Travis ECHS Families and Friends,

Welcome back from fall break. Hopefully you enjoyed the break with family and fun.

You may have noticed some changes in the parking lot. As construction is underway for our new building, many areas are now fenced off to allow for construction workers and trucks to get to work! As always, please proceed cautiously through the parking area and watch for pedestrians!

December is here, and we are ready to end this semester STRONG!

In order to end strong, we are asking that students aim to attend school every day and on time. If you must be absent, remember to bring a note to the Attendance Office for an attendance correction. Students whose attendance has fallen below 90% can come to Twilight after school in the library, Mondays through Thursdays to recover attendance hours.

To finish strong, we need all students who are testing this week to show up with your charged Chromebook. Get rest and show up to the theater to complete the End-Of-Course (EOC) STAAR tests. Many students showed up for tutoring over the past few weeks- way to go!

We have two weeks of classes and then FINAL EXAMS start on December 17. To finish strong, Rebels can turn work and projects in now, study for their exams, and make a plan to attend interventions & tutorials. Final Exams count as 20% of your semester grade so make them count!

Have a great week, Rebels!

Has a staff person at Travis provided you with excellent support or gone out of their way to help you? Send them a RAVE!

Attendance Reminders/Updates

90% Attendance Rule- What does it mean?

If a student drops below 90% in a course, an "NC" is entered instead of a grade. The grade may be passing – but the student did not attend at least 90% of the time. Please contact your student’s Assistant Principal to see what corrective steps must be taken.

To regain credit, students can attend after school tutoring on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 4:45 pm to 6:15 pm through twilight. See Twilight information below.

A Note About Field Trip/Testing Attendance

You might notice that when your child is on a field trip or taking a test, you may initially receive an absence notification. TEA (Texas Education Agency) requires classroom teachers to take attendance based on who is physically present in their classrooms at the time attendance is taken.

If a student is on a field trip or taking a test, they will initially be counted absent, and our attendance clerk will then re-code absences as excused based on the field trip attendance submitted by the trip chaperones or by the testing roster submitted by the testing proctor. This process can take time, but we all want to make sure student attendance is as accurate as possible.

Please continue to contact the school Attendance clerk when you see an issue or have questions about your students attendance.
