Attendance Reminders/Updates

**90% rule what does it mean?**

If a student drops below 90% in a course, an "NC" is entered instead of a grade. The grade may be passing – but the student did not attend at least 90% of the time. Please contact your student’s Assistant Principal to see what corrective steps must be taken.

  • To regain credit, students can attend after school tutoring on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 4:45 pm to 6:15 pm through twilight. See Twilight information below.

A Note About Field Trip/Testing Attendance

You might notice that when your child is on a field trip or taking a test, you may initially receive an absence notification. TEA (Texas Education Agency) requires classroom teachers to take attendance based on who is physically present in their classrooms at the time attendance is taken.

If a student is on a field trip or taking a test, they will initially be counted absent, and our attendance clerk will then re-code absences as excused based on the field trip attendance submitted by the trip chaperones or by the testing roster submitted by the testing proctor. This process can take time, but we all want to make sure student attendance is as accurate as possible.

Please continue to contact the school Attendance clerk when you see an issue or have questions about your students attendance.

Social Emotional Learning Spotlight

This week we focus on Community Building. Students will learn what they have in common in addition to how they are different. As we approach the Cultural Seasonal Holidays, it's important to honor each other's cultural traditions in our community. November 1st is a student and staff holiday. November 1st is Dia de los Muertos, and this year it is also the Festival of Lights- Diwali. Learn about the Festival of Lights.

What traditions and customs does your family take part in over the coming holidays?
