No School Monday, March 31

A reminder that students will not attend classes on March 31, 2025 for the observance of Eid-al-Fitr Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta Day.

Eid al-Fitr is a three day holiday that ends the Islamic month of Ramadan and is one of Islam’s two major religious holidays. Eid al-Fitr means "Festival of breaking fast." Families who observe Eid al-Fitr will celebrate with family and food after the end of a long fast, engaging in prayer and other traditions.

In 2014 President Obama announced March 31 as Cesar Chavez Day. Although this day is not a formal federal holiday, many cities across the nation, such as Phoenix and Los Angeles treat it as such. In 2019, Fort Worth ISD became the first district in Texas to honor Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta with a school holiday. Austin ISD similarly followed suit, providing students with opportunities to engage in learning and a day of action.

March for Peace!

Zilker's March for Peace is an annual No Place for Hate community tradition! Leading up to the march, teachers and students have a chance to talk with one another about what peace means to them, how they can contribute to a peaceful school and society, and create posters showing what they are marching for.

From 8-8:30 on April 4th, students, teachers and families will meet on the back soccer field for a short gathering, sing our Teaching Peace song, and then march around the school. We will end at the front of the school around 8:30 and students will then return to class.

Spring Fling!

Spring Fling tickets are now on sale! Spring Fling will take place on Friday, April 11 at The Highball.

Complimentary tickets are available for interested families. Please inquire with elizabeth.vreeland@austinisd.org.

Request for Cardboard Boxes for Zilker Art Show

Dear Art Parents,

We are getting ready for the big Zilker Art Show on May 15th and need your help! We are currently collecting cardboard boxes to assist with our preparations. Specifically, we are looking for Amazon or shipping boxes (please no food boxes).

If you have any spare boxes that you can donate, please send them with your child to school or drop them off at the front office. Your support is greatly appreciated!

There is one full week left until race day, Sunday April 6th. We currently have 142 members - our biggest turnout ever. Way to go!!! Here is an updated roster to check for your names.
