Celebrating Black History Month!
On Wednesday, PreK-5th engaged in a joyous celebration of African Culture for Black History month. The exuberant, award-winning Children’s Author, Ada Ari, shared African artifacts, fabrics, instruments, dances, geography and stories! She had the whole cafeteria singing, laughing and joining in the culturally rich experience! A lot of the children said it was their favorite Guest Artist ever and left dancing out of the assembly with huge smiles!
This program was brought to you by our PTA Arts in Education committee & Diversity committee! Click here to see photos & videos from the assemblies.
Please do not park off of Ann Arbor St. on Friday, March 7 after 3:30.
The food trucks for the 75th Anniversary Party will be parking there!
Austin ISD monitoring Measles, no reported cases to date
Austin ISD is carefully monitoring the ongoing spread of Measles throughout the state and in neighboring communities.
Why it matters: Measles is an airborne, extremely infectious and potentially severe rash illness. While it was declared eliminated in the United States in 2000, Texas has seen a surge of cases in recent months.
Where we stand: No active measles cases have been reported in the City of Austin since December 2019.
Our district currently reports a 96% student compliance to the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) state immunizations guidelines — that’s 1% above the target recommended by health officials.
We’re working tirelessly to increase this compliance rate in collaboration with Austin Public Health via outreach, education, vaccine clinics and direct campus health room communication.
How we got here…United States Measles vaccination coverage among kindergarteners has dipped below the 95% coverage target — much lower in some communities — and is decreasing.
Global measles activity is increasing, meaning more chances of an unvaccinated person infected with measles abroad returning to the United States.
Questions/Comments? Please reach out to Austin ISD Health Services and Nursing via Let’s Talk.
The bottom line: We remain vigilant and prepared to react to any public health scenario and provide our students and teachers the peace of mind necessary to succeed academically.
