April is a beautiful month on our campus as our garden, wildflowers, and trees begin to flourish! Our students in third, fourth, and fifth grade will also take the STAAR exam in reading, math, and science (5th grade only). While these assessments greatly impact out state accountability rating, we are proud of our students' growth and want the testing days to feel calm and supportive. We want our students to be confident in what they've learned this year--it's a lot!
Registration for next year is open, and we have set a goal of having 100% of students registered by April 15. Please let us know how we can support your family in completing preschool or grade school registration for school year 2026-2027.
We will also celebrate our final Butterfly Festival on Saturday, April 18 from 10-2pm. We hope to see you there for free food and activities!

Prepare Your Student for STAAR Testing |
In April, students all across Texas will take the State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness test to see how they perform on grade-level skills in math and reading. Students in 5th grade will also be assessed in science. Students can take the test in English or in Spanish and, if needed, are able to use Montessori materials or other aids to help them solve problems during the exam.
Tuesday, April 7: 1:1 STAAR Reading Tests and Ms. Amanda's 3rd Graders
Wednesday, April 8: Third Grade STAAR Reading
Thursday, April 9: Upper EL STAAR Reading
Wednesday, April 15: 5th Grade STAAR Science
Tuesday, April 21: Lower EL STAAR Math
Wednesday, April 22: Upper EL STAAR Math
Thursday, April 23: 1:1 STAAR Math tests
In order to give our students a calm testing environment, visitors will not be allowed on campus during testing days.
Students are no longer required to attend summer school or be retained if they fail the exam, but we want all students to do their best so we know how we better need to support students in their learning. We also use a variety of other assessments to help us get a clear picture of each child's academic skills.
You can help your student prepare for STAAR testing days by:
*Making sure they get a good night's sleep
*Encourage them to eat breakfast at home or at school
*Let them share their worries or anxieties about the test
*Encourage them to take their time and do their best, even on questions they might not know
*Remind them that this test will help their teachers know how to help them grow
Please make sure that your child is on time for school so they can start their exam with their classmates.
You can explore the STAAR test as a parent here: https://www.texasassessment.gov/practice-tests.html

Student Auditions for the School Play Monday, May 11!
|
We are so excited to have the Missoula Children’s Theater (MCT) back at our school this year with the production of The Secret Garden! There are roles for students from Kindergarten through 5th grade. Approximately 50-60 Winn Montessori students will be cast to appear in the show. Up to four (4) students will be cast as Assistant Directors. There is no guarantee that everyone who auditions will be cast in the play. Classroom guides will bring students to the audition and students must stay for the entire two-hour session.
All rehearsals will be during the school day, but students cast in the show must be available for the 6:00pm performance on Saturday, May 16!
Look out for a sign-up flyer in your child's backpack the last week in April!

Happy spring, Winn Montessori! The most exciting time of the school year is upon us and there are so many fun events coming up like the Butterfly Festival, Missoula Children's Theatre Week, Circle of Games field day, and more! We will need volunteer help at the Butterfly Festival on Saturday, April 18, so please sign up to volunteer!
The annual Staff Appreciation week is coming up the week of May 4. Our amazing Staff Appreciation committee is working hard to plan plenty of activities to show our amazing staff how much we love them. The biggest thing they will need is $25 GIFT CARDS to ensure every staff member at Winn receives one.If you’d like to donate gift cards (anything is appreciated, but HEB, Target, Walmart and Amazon are the most popular!), please drop them off in the front office or contact Allison Hanschen at staffappreciation@winnpta.org.
Is your student planning to attend Andrews, Pecan Springs, or Reilly next school year? Are you wondering how to get involved at their new school? Please fill out this form and we will send your contact information to school leadership for inclusion on their email list.
For families who will be at Reilly next year, there is a PTA meeting coming up on Monday, April 27, at 5:30 PM at Reilly. This is a great opportunity to learn more about Reilly and the PTA, so we encourage you to attend. The plan is also to elect next year's board during that meeting, so if you're interested in serving on the PTA board, email Ryan Malone at president@winnpta.org and she will pass your information along to the Reilly PTA.
Upcoming Events We’ve got a ton of great events coming up this year, but the BEST way to keep up to date is to subscribe to the calendar on the school website.
