Message from Ms. Bridget

I can not believe we are almost to the end of our first nine weeks together! It has been an honor to serve our school community and to spend my days with your children. So many of you were able to attend Watch Me Work night, and we hope all are able to attend caregiver conferences to learn more about your student's experience at Winn Montessori. As always, please reach out with any questions or concerns.

While we will not be giving out or eating candy at school, students are invited to wear their costumes on October 31st. The primary students will do a parade for our older students! Please ensure costumes are comfortable for wearing all day and refrain from blood and weapons. I'm excited to see everyone dressed up!

Caregiver Conferences

On October 14, guides will hold conferences with parents and caregivers to discuss their child's progress this school year. Families will be able to choose a time that works for them. If needed, families can schedule after school or during the guide's planning time if unable to attend on October 14. Conferences last between 20 and 30 minutes.

At this conference, parents and caregivers will learn:

Their child's strengths and areas of growth in academics and behavior
Their child's ability to complete age-appropriate work
Assessment results from beginning of the year assessments like mapGrowth Reading and Math
Attendance and tardy rate

Families are welcome to bring their own questions and concerns. We look forward to this time discussing your child!

ACTION: Income Verification Forms Due

Complete Income Verification Through Enroll Austin: Families must complete the Income Verification Form (IVF) through Enroll Austin. Paper forms are no longer being used.

Submission Deadline: All economic Income Verification Forms must be submitted by October 25, 2024.

Returning Students: New families are already completing the form, but returning students need additional reminders to finish their annual registration.

How does this impact our school? Accurate economic status coding is crucial for determining funding and campus accountability ratings. We want to know if families are experiencing poverty so we can get more money to provide their children extra support at school!

Upcoming Survey: An income verification survey will be emailed to families who haven't completed an IVF, opening on October 1, 2024, as an alternative for those not using Enroll Austin or experiencing a change in income.

REMINDER: Standards-Based Grading at Winn Montessori

The end of the nine weeks is October 18, and families will then receive a report card for their student.

At Winn Montessori, we use standards-based grading to tell families if their child can complete age-level or grade-level tasks without help from the classroom guide.

We do not grade individual assignments or tests. Instead, the guide uses multiple measures, including observation, to determine the child's skills.

Hello, Winn Montessori families! We hope you’ve all had a great start to the school year and it’s been so fun to see all your faces around campus.

To learn more about who PTA is and what we do at Winn Montessori, check out our webpage. Consider joining the PTA and donating to the Annual Fund to support great events and programs that benefit the students and staff at our school. We can’t do what we do without your support. Every penny counts!

Upcoming PTA events (check the school calendar for more detail):

Tuesday, 10/1, 4 PM-close: Spirit Night at PTerry’s. Some Winn families will come inside to eat with friends, but driving through counts too! 10% of all sales go to the PTA!
Sunday, 10/13, 9 AM: Garden Workday. Meet at the Winn veggie garden to get your hands dirty and begin to tackle the campus to-do list.
Sunday, 10/13, 9 AM: PTA Playdate! Bring the kiddos out to the Winn playground to run out some energy. Feel free to bring snacks to share.
Friday, 10/25, 6 PM: Movie night! Bring your blankets and pillows to the cafeteria to watch Coco with your friends. Popcorn and pizza will be available.
