Travis Families & Community-

Hello Rebels!

We have STAAR EOC (End Of Course) exams for Biology and US History on Tuesday, April 15. Next week, Algebra STAAR EOC exam will be on Wednesday, April 23. The STAAR EOCs are the state-required exams that students must pass in order to graduate!

Students who are not testing on those days will be in assigned classrooms in the morning. Rosters will be posted for students to know if they are testing and where to go. Students will attend afternoon classes. Makeup testing for Biology and US History will be April 16 and Algebra will retest on April 24 and class schedules will resume normally those dates. Please try to avoid scheduling appointments or pulling your student from school on their EOC dates!

Help your student be well-prepared for their test day. Here are some things you can do:

  • Ensure 8-10 hours of sleep each night to help with focus and retention

  • Encourage healthy eating, starting with a good breakfast

  • Limit screen time during the week to prioritize rest and study

  • Talk to your child about their tests and schedule this week

  • Ensure your child is on time to school. School starts at 9:05

  • Reach out to teachers or counselor if you need support

  • Ask your child if they have their Chromebook charged and ready to test

Don't forget! Student Enrollment is open! Please make sure your child is registered for next school year by completing the process here AISD Portal by May  31, 2024. If your child is a Transfer, please be sure to re-apply for the Transfer.

Saturday School

Saturday School 9 a.m. to noon

Do you owe hours? Need to study? Want to work on IGC Projects or Homework?

Come to Saturday School on the days listed. No need to sign up, Just show up. **Some students will be assigned to Saturday School to recover hours and grades.

Attendance Reminders/Updates

90% Attendance Rule- What does it mean?

If a student drops below 90% in a course, an "NC" is entered instead of a grade. The grade may be passing – but the student did not attend at least 90% of the time. Please contact your student’s Assistant Principal to see what corrective steps must be taken.

To regain credit, students can attend after school tutoring on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 4:45 pm to 6:15 pm through twilight. See Twilight information below.

A Note About Field Trip/Testing Attendance

You might notice that when your child is on a field trip or taking a test, you may initially receive an absence notification. TEA (Texas Education Agency) requires classroom teachers to take attendance based on who is physically present in their classrooms at the time attendance is taken.

If a student is on a field trip or taking a test, they will initially be counted absent, and our attendance clerk will then re-code absences as excused based on the field trip attendance submitted by the trip chaperones or by the testing roster submitted by the testing proctor. This process can take time, but we all want to make sure student attendance is as accurate as possible.

Please continue to contact the school Attendance clerk when you see an issue or have questions about your students attendance.

Sarampion Informacion
Measles Information

A Note from Nurse Lepine

Measles cases are on the rise in Texas, the U.S. and globally. While at this time we have no reported cases in Austin ISD, measles is an airborne, extremely infectious, and potentially severe or deadly illness that presents the greatest risk to young children, particularly those that are unvaccinated.

It is uncommon for someone who is fully vaccinated to develop measles. Two doses of the Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) vaccine are 97% effective at preventing measles, and one dose is 93% effective. However, breakthrough infections (when someone becomes infected after they have been vaccinated) can occur, especially in communities experiencing an outbreak where high levels of the measles virus are circulating.

If your child develops measles symptoms, including a rash, fever, cough, runny nose, and red eyes, please keep your child at home and consult your medical provider for further guidance.

If your child is not up to date on vaccinations or if you are unsure, please contact a healthcare provider. If you have questions about our records, contact our health room staff, Rachel Lepine, RN at rachel.v.lepine@austinisd.org
