Travis Family & Community Newsletter

Your weekly guide to Travis ECHS updates Week of January 6

Hello Travis Families & Community!

We hope you have had a great Winter Break. We are looking forward to seeing Rebels in the building for second semester on Tuesday, January 7! Austin is facing colder than usual weather this week so bundle up, and keep an eye on weather reports!

Students- PLEASE be sure to check your Class SCHEDULE on the portal.austinisd.org for any updates.

Counselors will be located in the library all week to address any critical schedule conflicts or needs. This includes: missing a class, being enrolled in a class you already received credit for, having a duplicate class, missing a required class for graduation.

Want to improve your grades? Don't wait, talk to your teachers and schedule your make-up tests! A friendly reminder that students have until January 24 to recover major grades from the second nine weeks reporting period. Students are responsible for coordinating make-up time with their teachers.

Have a great week!

Attendance Reminders/Updates

90% Attendance Rule- What does it mean?

If a student drops below 90% in a course, an "NC" is entered instead of a grade. The grade may be passing – but the student did not attend at least 90% of the time. Please contact your student’s Assistant Principal to see what corrective steps must be taken.

To regain credit, students can attend after school tutoring on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 4:45 pm to 6:15 pm through twilight. See Twilight information below.

A Note About Field Trip/Testing Attendance

You might notice that when your child is on a field trip or taking a test, you may initially receive an absence notification. TEA (Texas Education Agency) requires classroom teachers to take attendance based on who is physically present in their classrooms at the time attendance is taken.

If a student is on a field trip or taking a test, they will initially be counted absent, and our attendance clerk will then re-code absences as excused based on the field trip attendance submitted by the trip chaperones or by the testing roster submitted by the testing proctor. This process can take time, but we all want to make sure student attendance is as accurate as possible.

Please continue to contact the school Attendance clerk when you see an issue or have questions about your students attendance.
