Your weekly guide to Travis ECHS updates Week of August 26

Hello Travis Families & Community!

We had a great first week back with Rebels! It's exciting to see students ready to learn, collaborate, and create great energy in the building.

Back to School! We are looking forward to seeing families Monday, August 26- for Back to School Night. Dinner will start at 5PM, and Principal Hodges will share updates with families in the cafeteria. Guardians will have a chance to walk the halls to meet teachers throughout the building.

Safety - want to continue working in partnership with parents to talk to your students about following procedures for safety. Ms. Hodges presented expectations and shared the student success guide during homeroom this week. The Austin ISD Student Success Guides can be found here. We are checking ID's for seniors leaving at lunch and expecting all other students to stay on campus during lunch. All students will have an ID by the end of this week. Everyone on campus including students, staff, and visitors are expected to wear an ID. We also launched a new student pick-up area in the front of the school. By the end of the week, the traffic was flowing smoothly and cleared out before 5pm. The traffic pattern is one new change related to construction on our campus and we appreciate your feedback and patience in the process!

Attendance- be sure to read the Attendance section in the newsletter below. While the district has provided flexibility over the last several years through the District of Innovation plan, we're doubling our efforts to help students stay on top of their coursework and earn their high school credits. Parents and guardians can now see if any credits are at-risk due to attendance indicated by an NC for "No credit" on each grading period report card. Make attendance a priority!

We ended the hot August week with popsicles in the front yard, thanks to our neighbors at Faith Presbyterian. We appreciate these partners in the community and them showing up for Travis Rebels!

Reminder: Friday is an A day.

Have a great week, Rebel Community!

Back to School Night Monday

Back to School Night will be on Monday, August 26th. Our amazing cafeteria will serve street tacos as we meet and mingle in the cafeteria. Principal Hodges will present information in the cafeteria. Following the presentation, guardians will be free to meet teachers in common areas throughout the building.

Schedule Changes

Our incredible counseling team has been working very hard to ensure students are in the correct classes. We are quickly checking and correcting any necessary schedule changes.

Our counseling team will only conduct schedule changes for the following needs:

  • The student is a senior and does not have a course required for graduation.

  • The student does not have the prerequisites for a course.

  • Course credit was previously recieved (i.e. - through summer school, correspondence courses, Examination for Acceleration, etc.)

  • A data entry error made by the school (i.e. - two-first-period classes, or a schedule that does not contain the full number of classes.

  • Student has been dismissed from a program where approval must be granted for placement.

Students may use this form to request schedule changes by this Friday, 8/30 https://forms.gle/XKTrmFH1AcKzSzS78

Student Drop Off/Pick Up

Parents will enter campus at Oltorf St. to drop off and pick up students near the front of the building. Special Transportation will also drop off and pick up in this zone.

It is imperative to drive slowly, stay alert, and be patient as you move through the line.

Safety is a priority and we ask that you proceed cautiously through the line and watch for pedestrians and other cars! Thank you for keeping Rebels Safe!

Travis is a Closed Campus!

We have a closed campus and all visitors must check in at the front office.

  • Only Seniors with ID's are allowed to leave campus for lunch. *** New Off Campus Expectations*** Starting 9/3

    1. Academics- Passing all classes at the 9 weeks.

    2. Behavior- No ISS, OSS or ALC placements

  • Following all Dismissal and Arrival procedures for lunch

    1. Two Dismissal points for staff to check ID’s

      1. Front door

      2. driveway exit near Starbucks

      3. Using crosswalk if walking across the street

    2. Need to have ID ready to show to staff to verify grade level.

    3. Students will not be allowed to leave campus after 1pm.

    4. Arrive to campus on time (excessively late can be reason to revoke privilege.)

LOSS OF PRIVILEGE WILL BE RESET EACH 9 WEEKS/ALC placement will reset at semester.

  • All students in grades 9-11 are not permitted to leave campus at any point throughout the day. Please talk to your student about the importance of staying on campus during the school day. Students often want to go to 7/11, Whataburger, or Starbucks during the school day. This is not permitted and will result in administrative correction.

  • AISD does not allow students to have food delivered to school. Please talk to your students about the safety concern this raises and the need to eliminate this practice at school.

  • Any student being picked up early must be checked out through the Front Office. Parents and family members are not permitted to pick students up early from other parts of the building.

Attendance Reminders

Students are required by law to be in attendance 90% of the time or they will not receive credit for their class.

Here are a few tips to consider:

  • Have your student arrive to school on time and attend every class period, especially the OAT—official attendance-taking period (10:30 AM middle schools and high schools; and, homeroom for elementary).

  • A student who is tardy to class will be subject to the consequences established at each campus in accordance with the possible consequences in the AISD Student Code of Conduct.

  • What happens if your student needs to see a doctor/dentist/therapist? If possible, we encourage you to schedule appointments outside of school hours. Obtain and submit a medical note for documentation to provide to your student’s campus Attendance Specialist. Documentation is needed so the absence will be coded correctly.

  • When you receive an absence notification, please follow up with your student and the campus attendance specialist. If you have documentation for your student’s absence, please submit as early as possible (it is recommended to submit within 48 hours). If you believe a teacher has marked a student incorrectly, please have your student reach out to the teacher of the marked period.

Email notes and documentation to : travis@austinisd.org

Student and Visitor Parking

Student and Staff parking is on the Southeast side of the building, between the gym and I-35. The access road will close after the last bus drops off in the morning and will remain closed until dismissal time at 4:40pm. Students must order a parking pass.

Visitor parking is marked and reserved along the front of the building. Visitors may park in these spaces and enter through the front doors.

The limited parking on the Southwest corner of the building near Blunn Creek is for AISD and Travis staff only.

Student Chromebooks & ID's

In AISD, each secondary student is issued a Chromebook to assist them with their school work. Travis requires students to bring their charged laptops to school. Returning students should have their school issued Chromebook from last year.

ID's and Chromebooks will begin to be disseminated this week. Both will be required for students each day. We want students prepared to learn with charged Chromebooks & ready to identify themselves with their ID's everyday.
