Hello Smallville, 

We have kicked off Hispanic Heritage Month here on campus, I want to encourage everyone to take this time to celebrate the vibrant cultures, histories, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities. This month offers a wonderful opportunity for our students to learn about diversity, empathy, and the shared stories that enrich our school and community. We will acknowledge Hispanic Heritage Month through our PRIDE advisory lessons, daily announcements, and various events throughout the month. I encourage you to engage in conversations at home that support this learning.

I’m also thrilled to remind you about our upcoming Noche Latina dance! Scheduled for September 27th, this event promises an evening filled with lively music and plenty of fun. I encourage all of our Cougars to participate and make it a night to remember!

Additionally, our Fall Pumpkin Patch is just around the corner! Join us on October 6th for a day of outdoor fun, where families can pick pumpkins, enjoy seasonal treats, and participate in various activities. It’s a great way to embrace the fall season and create joyful memories with your children. Please note, that pumpkins and Food Vendors will require Cash or Cards, and you will need tickets for everything else. You can pre-purchase your ticket bundles for games and activities online. Plus, purchasing tickets in advance not only saves money but also enters you into a raffle for a $50 gift card basket from the PTA.

As we dive into these exciting events, I want to take a moment to reflect on the importance of savoring time with our kids. They grow up so quickly, and before we know it, they’ll be embarking on their own adventures. Let’s make an effort to cherish these everyday moments—whether it’s attending a school event, reading together, or simply enjoying each other’s company.

Our Homecoming Football Game is scheduled for Oct. 1st. Since that is a short week we are moving spirit week to the week before. Help us Celebrate school pride next week and wear your clint Small Middle School Shirts to the game on October 1st at Burger Center.

All campuses in Austin ISD offer Gifted and Talented screening in grades K-12 based on referrals submitted at http://bit.ly/2024AISDGTStart. If you are interested in seeing whether your child demonstrates a need for Gifted and Talented Services, please follow the link above. When a referral is submitted for a child, their parent or caregiver will be prompted to complete a Parent/Caregiver GT Observation Form.

Referrals are received by the Campus GT Advocate, who facilitates the implementation of GT assessment and services at the campus level. For questions about the GT identification process or services at your campus, please reach out to your Campus GT Advocate.

If you student is needing some extra help in any of their classes, here are our teachers tutoring times for this year. Any before school tutoring requires a pass from the teacher, have your student talk to their teacher ahead of time for a pass. Afterschool they can just show up.

Before school tutoring starts 7:45 and afterschool goes until 4:30

Note: Some teachers may start earlier in the mornings, or go later in the afternoons have your student confirm with their teachers to coordinate parent transportation. THERE IS NO LATE BUS

We’re excited to invite you to our Small Clean-Up Day Sunday, September 29th. We’ll meet at 9am and work to trim overgrown bushes and trees, pick up trash, and clear out the walkway areas to make Smallville shine. These two itineraries were picked with a lot of thought put into them. Students (and adults!) will get to see so many iconic places on tour, including a great number of World Heritage Sites. The hands-on experiences chosen are great as well, the landmarks we'll visit, and the sights you'll see are all world-class: From the Island of Capri "faraglione" to the Acropolis, to swimming on Heraklion beaches in Crete, to stepping on Kyoto's most amazing temple - a national treasure itself, to visiting technology museums in Tokyo and Japanese gardens in Osaka, walking in the steps of Gladiators in the Colosseum and Roman Forum, or learning about how Pompeii got buried in ashes with Mount Vesuvius in the background, or stepping into Delphi and learning about oracles in Greece, it's going to be amazing!
