Dear Crockett Cougars,
Happy March, and Ramadan Mubarak to all who observe.
We wrapped the month of February with multiple Black History Month events including field trips, an Open Mic Night, a campus wide door decorating contest, and a culminating celebration last Friday with guest speakers, community partners, salon services from our cosmetology students, screen printing from our visual arts students, and several beautiful performances. Thank you so much to the sponsors and student members of the Black Student Alliance for providing the vision and planning for this month’s celebration.
I would also like to share two big achievements for Crockett ECHS. First, our automotive students received a $25,000 grant from Hendrick Auto Group for curriculum and equipment upgrades. Professional drivers Kyle Larson and Rajah Caruth, as well as multiple technicians and mechanics, joined several Austin community members to meet with students and perform live demonstrations. You can read more about this unique and impactful event here.
Crockett ECHS is also officially an AVID National Demonstration Campus! This is a huge accomplishment, as only 3% of AVID Schools nationwide earn the distinction of “Demonstration” through AVID’s rigorous vetting process. On Monday March 3, educators from across Central Texas participated in Crockett’s AVID Showcase to learn more about how our campus leadership and systems promote college and career readiness for all Cougars. I am so incredibly proud of the many years of dedication and hard work that each of our staff members has put in so we could achieve this milestone.
As we look forward to Spring Break, which begins on Friday March 14, I hope to see many of our families at our PTSA/ CAC meetings on March 12.
Upon our return from the break, we begin the 4th 9-week grading period, as well as AISD Pride Week March 24-28. The spring semester is full of memories and excitement, but typically flies by! With hard work comes great rewards. I encourage each of our Cougars to stay focused and attentive to grades, and find opportunities to make up attendance hours if needed. Graduation 2025 is right around the corner.
Wishing you and your loved ones a safe, healthy, relaxing, and Always Victorious Spring break!
