Dear Crockett Cougars,
Thank you for your support in starting this semester strong! Our community has done a great job with our new policies of showing their ID’s to enter the building each day and observing our alarmed “emergency exit only” doors.
I want to share the exciting news that Crockett has been selected by AVID Center to participate in a showcase and demonstration celebration on March 3rd! Many of you know AVID as an impactful college and career readiness elective with a long history of success for our students. At Crockett, AVID strategies of Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization and Reading are embedded in every class, and our campus leadership uses the AVID framework to build intentional systems to prepare every Cougar to graduate college, career, and life ready. Our campus was selected as a demonstration and showcase campus through a rigorous vetting process, and now schools from across the AVID network will be able to come and observe our talented teachers and AVID program in action. I am so proud of every AVID and content teacher, and each member of leadership, counseling, and instructional staff for their commitment to breaking down barriers and building relational capacity to achieve this milestone in unlocking the potential of every Crockett student.
This month I have enjoyed watching the New Crockett Powerlifting Team lift in their first meets, Crockett Theatre’s musical Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, and our artists and athletes have continued to excel at their games and performances. It’s also Black History Month, and we are looking forward to celebrating in our lessons, campus celebrations through other campus events you can learn more about below.
On another note, I also understand that recent developments in national politics have raised a lot of concerns for many of our families. I want to acknowledge that the stress surrounding these political changes is real, and it can impact our students' mental and emotional well-being. We are working to ensure that students have access to the resources they need to manage anxiety, stress and fear during this challenging time. Our school counselors and mental health professionals are available to provide support for any student who needs it in a safe, confidential setting. There are many community organizations that can provide resources and support. You can find them by contacting our Parent Support Specialist, Michelle Vaca (Michelle.Vaca@austinisd.org)
Our priority is to create a safe, supportive environment for all students. No student or family will be singled out or treated differently based on their immigration status. Our focus is always on the best interests of students and ensuring they can learn and grow in a supportive atmosphere.
Thank you for all of your support. Let’s have a great February, filled with Joy and Cougar PRIDE!
