A Message from Principal King
As I begin my third year as Principal, I'm filled with pride to lead this phenomenal school community. It's a privilege to work alongside such dedicated educators, students, and families.
While there are a few important policy updates for this year that I ask you review in detail below, one thing remains constant: Crockett is a dedicated and inclusive community that prepares students for college, careers, and life. We can accomplish great things when we work together!
If your student will not be joining us this school year, please contact the main office at 514-414-2532 or email kathyuska.batista@austinisd.org and valarie.garza@austinisd.org to complete the withdrawal process.
Please let me know how I can support you for an “Always Victorious” school year!
Sincerely,
Shana King
Principal, Crockett High School
Morning Drop-Off and Campus Entry
To ensure the safety of all students, the Crockett High School building will open for general entry at 8:30 a.m. each morning. Please plan your student’s drop-off and transportation accordingly.
Between 8:30 a.m. and the 9:05 a.m. bell, students can enter through one of two locations:
The main entrance on Menchaca (by using the doorbell)
The cafeteria entrance in the Stassney Bus Loop
During this time, breakfast will be served in the cafeteria.
After 9:05 a.m., all students must enter through the main entrance on Menchaca.
Please Note: Students who participate in zero-hour classes or extracurricular activities that meet before 8:30 a.m. must be escorted and supervised by an adult. For the security of our campus, students are not permitted to open doors for others.
New Texas Law: No Student Personal Device Use During School Hours
During the most recent legislative session, Texas lawmakers passed, and Gov. Greg Abbott signed into law, House Bill 1481, which prohibits students from using personal devices on district premises during school hours.
Items that must now be turned off and put away on Austin ISD campuses from bell to bell:
Personal cell phones, tablets, gaming devices, smart watches, bluetooth headphones or earbuds, fitness trackers that can send or receive messages, personal (non-district-issued) computers (laptops and Chromebooks), Two-way radios, Pagers, Any other device capable of digital communication
If your student previously used their personal device, please see below for the distribution schedule.
What this means for Austin ISD:
Devices must be turned off, stored out of sight, and not used during school hours
Exceptions will be made for documented medical needs and special education accommodations
Violations will result in the confiscation of the item
The law aims to enhance student learning, minimize distractions, and reduce the risk of cyberbullying. We know this change will be most successful when families partner with us—your conversations with your students about the importance of being device-free during school will make all the difference.
First Week of School Chromebook Distribution
We will be distributing district issued Chromebooks and chargers next week through students’ Social Studies classes. Please review the schedule below for when your student will receive their device based on their grade level.
9th Grade Students- Tuesday, August 19th and Wednesday, August 20th
10th - 12th Grade Students- Thursday, August 21st and Friday, August 22nd
Students may replace lost, stolen, or damaged Chromebooks Students may also purchase a Chromebook charger at this time ($8 for a used charger, $12 for a new charger)
If you wish to purchase your own, please use the district approved charger to avoid further damage to the Chromebook
Please remind your student to bring any damaged devices they need to replace. They must be turned in at the time of pickup. Thank you for your support in helping us ensure every student is equipped for success this school year!
Class Schedules
Student schedules will be visible in Parent and Student’s Frontline Self-Serve beginning Friday, August 15th. For help accessing Frontline or the AISD Parent Portal, visit this link.
The first day of school is a “B” day, meaning students will begin in their 5th period classes. Students can find their 5th period class posted by the front office the first day of school and they will receive their full schedule on paper during their 5th period class. Students can also access their “live” schedule through the AISD Student Portal on their Chromebooks. Please keep in mind that schedules might shift due to leveling of class sizes and/or course corrections the first two weeks of school so it is important for parents and students to become familiar with accessing the live schedule in Frontline to stay aware of any potential changes.
If you or your student notice any schedule corrections that are needed after viewing your student’s schedule, please complete this Schedule Correction form. Counselors will contact your student as they work through schedule corrections the first two weeks of school.
Student IDs and Campus Entry
For the safety of our campus, all Crockett students must show a valid school ID to enter the building.
Temporary IDs: Students will be issued a temporary printed ID at the end of the first week of school. Please be prepared to show this ID for entry starting Monday, August 25th.
Permanent Photo IDs: Your student's permanent photo ID will be included as part of their school picture package. School Picture Day is scheduled for September 9th and 10th during English classes.
Replacements: Students will receive their first replacement ID for free. After that, any additional replacement IDs will cost $5.
Alarmed Doors
We have several doors on campus that are clearly marked as Emergency Only Exits. These doors are alarmed and monitored by cameras to keep our students safe and deter off-campus activity.
Please remind your student that these doors are strictly for emergencies. Unlocking or using these doors for non-emergencies will result in disciplinary action, including the possibility of attending Alternative Learning Center (ALC).
My Homework Digital Hall Pass System
Crockett ECHS will continue to utilize a Digital Hall Pass System. This replaces traditional paper passes and helps us increase accountability, prevent unwanted student behaviors and interactions, and minimize time out of class.
Students request passes on their school-issued device using their school login.
Reminder that all students are expected to bring a charged chromebook for schoolwork each day. Students can visit the librarian for missing or broken chromebooks.
Staff will issue a pass on a student’s behalf if for some reason they have no working device that day, however this should not be a regular occurrence. Administrators will address students who are habitually without their materials.
Students show their approved digital pass to their teachers to leave, and students are checked in by staff once they reach their destination.
Administrators have the ability to adjust and personalize pass restrictions based on documented individual student needs, such as medical, IEP, 504, etc.
Student training for this system can be found here.
Students who are not appropriately observing our pass and hallway expectations will receive administrative consequences.
Emails will be sent to the Primary Guardian Email on file from "Crockett High School myHomework No Reply <noreply@myhomeworkapp.com>" if your student is issued a "Walkout Pass" for leaving class without permission.
