Message from the Principal

Maddox

Dear Covington Families,

What an exciting first week back at Covington! It’s been energizing to see our students return with such enthusiasm, ready to take on the year. Last week was a busy one, filled with learning and new beginnings. We kicked things off with Expectations Assemblies, where we reviewed key information with students around behavior, academic responsibility, and campus routines.

One of the highlights of the week was the introduction of our House Cup Challenge, a fun and engaging way to build community and positive behavior. Many students came home proudly wearing wristbands that represent their assigned house and its focus. We’re looking forward to seeing how each house shines throughout the year!

Most students also received their Chromebooks and lockers, and we spent time going over expectations for the proper use and care of these items during the assemblies. We are currently updating our Electronic Device Policy on the school website to align with district guidelines, so please keep an eye out for those changes.

This week, we’re looking forward to seeing you at Title I Night and Back to School Night on Wednesday, August 27th. We hope you’ll join us to meet teachers and walk through your child’s schedule, it's a great way to connect and stay informed.

Lastly, a big thank you to all the parents for your patience and cooperation during drop-off and pick-up. Your attentiveness and care help us ensure safety for every student on campus. Let’s continue to model patience and keep our school community safe and welcoming.

Your Proud Principal,

Cedric Maddox

Meet Our School Nurse!

Bianca Wan

Hello, I am Bianca Wan the school nurse at Covington Middle School. This is my second year at this campus. I got my feet wet at Akins High School last school year. I graduated from UT Health San Antonio in 2005. In the past I worked for Methodist Healthcare System in San Antonio as a clinical nurse and informatics nurse. I have 3 young kids that are so much fun right now - 9, 6, and 2. I also enjoy gardening, running, swimming, and reading.

Raising Awareness About Health and Hygiene

It's important to have open conversations with young girls about the natural rhythms of their bodies and how to maintain good hygiene during these changes.

While it's a natural part of life, unexpected moments can sometimes feel uncomfortable. Let's ensure our girls have the encouragement and essentials they need during these new experiences. For parents of boys, don't shy away from discussing these normal changes, as many boys have friends, sisters, or even mothers who may appreciate their understanding and support.

Be prepared for unexpected moments! It's helpful to keep lockers stocked with essentials like extra clothes and necessary hygiene items.

  • Remember to refresh your supplies regularly, especially before school and throughout the day.

  • Avoid disposing of these items in toilets—always use the trash bin instead. Using a tracking app can help estimate timing and plan ahead.

  • If discomfort or irregularities occur, seeking advice from a doctor is a good idea.

  • Don’t forget to wash hands.

  • Feminine products are readily available for students in the event they need them.
