Maddox's Message

Mr. Maddox

Covington Colts,

Thank you to all the parents who supported and donated to the Fall Friendzy! It was a tremendous success, and your children truly enjoyed themselves Friday night. Moments like these are invaluable in building a sense of community beyond the traditional school day, and it’s important to celebrate and remember them.

On the topic of community, I know that work and family responsibilities can sometimes make it feel challenging to find time to be involved at Covington. But please know that every contribution of time makes a difference, and we want to create more opportunities for parent involvement throughout the day. Whether it’s joining your child for lunch, walking the hallways as an extra set of eyes, helping out in the front office, the library, or simply being visible during arrival or dismissal, your presence is always welcome at Covington.

Research shows that parental involvement during school hours has a positive impact on school safety and student well-being. Schools with active parent engagement often experience fewer disciplinary issues, and the visible presence of parents in the building has been shown to foster a safer, more positive learning environment for all. We would love to have you with us in any way that fits your schedule, helping create a safe, engaged community for our students.

And don’t feel your contribution has to be half a day, every week, or even once a month. Whatever time you have is appreciated, and I know students would love to see their parents on campus throughout the day, even if from afar. Ms. Garcia will be creating a sign-up form for our high-traffic times, but if your schedule doesn’t align, any time you can offer would be valued.  In addition, she will providing guidance on how to complete a background check through AISD, the process has been streamlined.

As a reminder, this is a 4-day school week; there is no school on Friday.

 Your proud principal,

Cedric Maddox

Attendance Matters

R.E.A.L

  • Routines: Daily attendance routines can reduce stress, increase your child’s self-confidence and lay a foundation for good attendance in later grades.

  • Engagement:  Participation in school helps your child connect with other children and adults and get excited about learning.

  • Access to Resources:  Schools can give you access to meals, physical and mental health care and other supports, and fun enrichment activities (sports, clubs, music, afterschool and summer programs, etc.).

  • Learning:  Children learn best from hand-on activities and through meaningful interactions with their teacher and other students.

We implement a dual-generational program that includes the parents; meaning out-of-school events like college trips, conferences, and fairs. We currently have open enrollment for our cohorts at Covington Middle School for our 6th-8th grade students. We have attached our link for our application.
