Dear Covington Middle School Parents / Guardians,
Another week down, and we are in full swing for this school year! I’d like to extend a big thank you to the parents who attended our first Campus Advisory Council (CAC) meeting on Wednesday afternoon. We had meaningful discussions about the new Campus Improvement Plan, our goals for this year, and reflections on both our progress and challenges from last year. Your feedback is invaluable, and I truly appreciate the honest and open conversations.
Next week, we will be hosting our first Coffee with the Principal on Wednesday afternoon at 4:30 PM. This is a great opportunity for any parents who would like to sit down, ask questions, or simply listen to school updates. All are welcome!
Finally, I want to express my gratitude for the patience you’ve shown as we finalized schedule changes, elective adjustments, and class balancing. We are almost through the process, and only a few students may experience changes next week.

Meet Our School Nurse!
Hello, I am the school nurse at Covington Middle School. This is my first year at this campus. I got my feet wet at Akins High School last school year. I graduated from UT Health San Antonio in 2005. In the past I worked for Methodist Healthcare System in San Antonio as a clinical nurse and informatics nurse. I have 3 young kids that are so much fun right now - 9, 6, and 2. I also enjoy gardening, running, swimming, and reading.

Raising Awareness About Health and Hygiene
It's important to have open conversations with young girls about the natural rhythms of their bodies and how to maintain good hygiene during these changes.
While it's a natural part of life, unexpected moments can sometimes feel uncomfortable. Let's ensure our girls have the encouragement and essentials they need during these new experiences. For parents of boys, don't shy away from discussing these normal changes, as many boys have friends, sisters, or even mothers who may appreciate their understanding and support.
Be prepared for unexpected moments! It's helpful to keep lockers stocked with essentials like extra clothes and necessary hygiene items.
Remember to refresh your supplies regularly, especially before school and throughout the day.
Avoid disposing of these items in toilets—always use the trash bin instead. Using a tracking app can help estimate timing and plan ahead.
If discomfort or irregularities occur, seeking advice from a doctor is a good idea.
Don’t forget to wash hands.
Feminine products are readily available for students in the event they need them.

September is Suicide Awareness Month. On average, one person dies by suicide every 3 hours in the state of Texas. Suicide is the 3rd leading cause of death for ages 10-14. We invite you to join in a prevention effort and “SAVE A NUMBER to SAVE A LIFE"! The number to save is 988! Call the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline at 988 or Text HOME to 741741 to receive free 24/7 help.
This can be a difficult conversation for families to have with their children. Here are some resources that may help with talking about suicide and mental health:

Requests for a schedule change will no longer be considered. The window for any changes has closed for the remainder of the semester.
Referral Forms for Students to See a Counselor:
Students will have paper and electronic copies of the referral form to see their counselor. The process will continue to be reiterated to students throughout the year. The electronic version is linked here:
