Peaceful Student Protest Follow-up |
Dear Bowie High School Community: Today between 1:23-1:29 p.m. approximately 500 students gathered during the passing period to join a protest. The students gathered in the courtyard and left campus at approximately 1:30 p.m.
The stated purpose of the walkout was to protest U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. It is important to note that this event is not sponsored or endorsed by the district. It was entirely initiated and organized by students. Please be aware that: |

Administrators reminded students to stay safe and encouraged respectful and peaceful behavior.
- Students remained on campus for approximately 6 minutes and were monitored by campus administrators and Austin ISD Police. Once students left campus, local law enforcement monitored the students for safety.

Campus administrators and staff stayed on campus throughout the demonstration to maintain the district's focus on campus operations and instruction.
- Campus staff will take attendance and note students who remain in class and those that were absent. Families will be notified if their child misses class or is tardy.

While we did not prevent students from participating, any students who miss class or arrive late due to the walkout will be counted as absent or tardy.
- If a student leaves campus and does not return by the end of the school day, we cannot facilitate their safe return home.

While we respect our students' civic engagement, student safety is our primary concern. Our ability to ensure their safety is limited when students attend non-school-sanctioned events. For this reason, we encourage you to discuss your family’s specific expectations regarding where your child should be and how they will get home safely. Once your child leaves campus, we cannot guarantee their safety, especially since student groups may encounter counter-protesters in the community.

Aunque respetamos el compromiso cívico de nuestros estudiantes, su seguridad es nuestra principal preocupación. Nuestra capacidad para garantizar su seguridad es limitada cuando los estudiantes asisten a eventos no autorizados por la escuela. Por este motivo, les animamos a que hablen con sus hijos sobre las expectativas específicas de su familia en cuanto al lugar donde deben estar y cómo llegar a casa de forma segura. Una vez que su hijo sale de la escuela, no podemos garantizar su seguridad, especialmente porque los grupos de estudiantes pueden encontrarse con contramanifestantes en la comunidad.
