✍️ A Message from Matias

I can’t believe Spring Break is already right around the corner! That is just wild. As we head into the break, let’s make sure we finish this week strong. Most importantly, don’t forget to take some well-deserved time to take care of yourself, rest, and truly connect with your families and loved ones. We are in this together, and your well-being matters!

Supporting Our Future: Austin ISD’s Summer Internship Program

With Summer 2026 on the horizon, we are already gearing up to set our students up for success the moment the school year ends. I am thrilled to share that we’ve already had 650 of our Austin ISD 9th, 10th, and 11th graders submit interest forms for our Summer Internship Program!

To make this a success, we need your help recruiting business and community partners to host these student interns from June 8 to July 24. Please share this opportunity with your partner networks so we can ensure our students have the support they need to thrive. For more information, please see the latest updates in the Leadership Weekly.

Celebrating a Legacy at Casis Elementary

We also had an absolutely incredible time recently celebrating a huge milestone: Casis Elementary’s 75th Anniversary! It was such a joy to see the students perform, dance, and just have a wonderful time celebrating 75 years of excellence.

I want to give a massive shout-out to Principal Tinnon for his leadership and for putting on such a great show. I was so happy to share that special moment with President Boswell, our dedicated staff, and the entire Casis community. Happy 75th Birthday, Cougars!

📍Where I’ll Be & Who I’m Meeting

Monday, Mar 9, 2026

It is going to be a productive start to the week as we head toward the break! I am spending most of Monday visiting partner schools alongside Dr. Mary Ann Maxwell, our Assistant Superintendent of Academics, and Chief of Staff La Kesha Drinks. In the afternoon, I’ll be huddling with senior leadership before closing out the day with some focused work time to keep our momentum moving forward on our goals and priorities.

Tuesday, Mar 10, 2026

On Tuesday morning, my focus shifts to conducting interviews for Senior Leadership positions. Afterward, I’ll be connecting with Trustee Singh, followed by a session with our Vertical Team Leader Plus group. I’ll wrap up the day with a touchpoint with Trustee Whitley Chu to stay aligned on our district’s goals.

Wednesday, Mar 11, 2026

Wednesday kicks off at ATX Bridge before I transition into a Governance Planning meeting with our Board Officers. I’ll then have a 1:1 with Chief of Staff Drinks. To finish the day, I am looking forward to attending a special reception honoring Dean Martinez who leads the College of Education at UT Austin, and who is recognized for tackling complex health and education challenges.

Thursday, Mar 12, 2026

I’m starting Thursday morning with my Direct Reports. Then, I’ll be heading over to the E3 Alliance Board of Directors meeting.  We will close out the afternoon with a Board Information Meeting; I’m particularly interested in the presentation on our Scorecard Goal Progress Measure 2.1, which focuses on 2nd Grade Numeracy—ensuring our youngest learners have the foundation they need to thrive.

Friday, Mar 13, 2026

We’re finishing the week strong on Friday with a real estate check-in and our regular Principal Update to stay connected with our campus leaders. I’ll spend the rest of the afternoon working with my direct reports and collaborating with the Council of the Great City Schools. Take care of yourselves as we head into the holiday!

  Spring Break Reminders: March 16-20

As we look forward to the break, we know that when schools are closed, it can be tough for some of our students to access healthy meals at home. We want to ensure every family has the resources they need while our offices are closed.  Please share these community resources for food assistance:

Central Texas Food Bank: www.centraltexasfoodbank.org

ConnectATX (United Way): www.connectatx.org

Texas Health and Human Services: Call 2-1-1 or (877) 541-7905

Recognize our amazing staff each month by submitting a RAVE!
