Hello everyone!  Two weeks until Thanksgiving break!

There is a LOT to celebrate with Anderson right now, and as we get further into the school year, I'm always impressed by how our student-athletes and student-performers are able to juggle to many responsibilities that are placed upon them. Whether that's waking up early for practice or staying late for rehearsal, our students are doing amazing things. I'm so proud of our students every day, and this first semester has been truly incredible.

I especially love how our community has come together to support all of our groups, with pep rallies, send-offs, and big cheering sections. This community truly supports each other and lifts each other up, and it's truly incredibly to see. Thanks for showing up!

We hope to see you continue showing up as we roll right into basketball season, with the first girls and boys basketball games coming up! The first girls basketball game is Tuesday, Nov 11th vs. Legacy Ranch, and the first boys basketball game is Friday, Nov 14th vs. Bowie. See you at the Madhouse on Mesa!

Also, on a completely different note, as the federal government continues to be shut down, we wanted to keep providing easy access to the food resources we gave out last week.  Our family support team with Austin ISD has put together a document with a list of resources for any families experiencing food insecurity which can be found here.

Anderson also has a phenomenal relationship with Westover Hills Church of Christ across the street from us, and they have a food pantry.  Please see information on food pickup (or how to help, if you can!) at their website here.

Finally, the district just released its Salute! Awards form! It's really powerful when community members nominate our amazing staff members for Salute! Awards, so if you think any of our amazing counselors, food service workers, custodial staff, clerical staff, professional staff, librarian, teaching assistants, or assistant principals are deserving of a special pat on the back or recognition, please fill out this form!

Congrats Lady Trojan Volleyball - 2025 Area Champs!

Congratulations to our Lady Trojan Volleyball Team!

On Tuesday, they became AREA Champs by beating Victoria East 3-1.  They were some hard-fought sets, and I was so proud when they won, becoming the first Anderson Volleyball team to go to Regional Semi-Finals since 1998.

Congratulations on an amazing season, Lady Trojans. You make me proud!

Congratulations Trojan Marching Band!!!

Our Trojan Marching Band is going to STATE for the first time since 2010 to perform their show "Thrown to the Wolves"!  This is incredibly exciting and a huge accomplishment for our band, and we want to give you a few opportunities to show your support.

Sunday, November 9, at 3:45pm there will be a public runthrough at Nelson Field and we'd love an audience to pump them up. Please arrive quietly and sit quietly until the band is done rehearsing so we don't distract them while we're gathering.

Monday, November 10, 9:30-ish, we'll gather at HillCrest Church, on Greenslope and fill Greenslope and Cima Serena with banners, noise makers, and all the cheers we can muster.

I hope to see you at one of those!

Football - District Champs!

A huge congratulations to our football team who are officially DISTRICT CHAMPS!

Finishing 9-1 on the season, we have an incredible team who is moving on to the playoffs!

We will be having a Playoff Pep Rally at Calhoon Field on Wednesday, November 12th at 6pm for the whole community!

The first game in the playoffs is against Friendswood at House Park, kickoff at 3pm! Be there!

Expect Respect Group taking referrals!

Expect Respect is a program from the SAFE Alliance that has served the Austin community since 1989. Students learn skills to promote safe and healthy friendships, family, and even dating relationships. The program offers a space where a small group of teens come together to practice assertive communication, problem-solving, stress management, and personal safety. Support is provided weekly at school and is free of charge. These confidential services are provided by highly trained Expect Respect Counselors or Facilitators during the student Advisory period. If your student gives their assent to participate, they will meet with the Expect Respect group once a week through the beginning of May, for approximately 50 minutes during the school day.

Parent/Guardian consent for the group is needed before Expect Respect staff can meet with your student. If you would like to consider this opportunity, please fill out the consent form at this link: https://tinyurl.com/ER-Parent-Consent. If you have not already done so, you will also need to give general consent to Anderson High School at this link Mental Health Services Consent Form in English

An informative flyer is attached. If you have any questions, please contact Janna Griffin, Anderson Counselor, at janna.griffin@austinisd.org.

National PTSA Reflections Program - "I Belong"

National PTA's Reflections program provides opportunities for students to explore their own thoughts, feelings, and ideas, develop artistic literacy, increase confidence, and find a love for learning that will help them become more successful in school and in life.

This year's theme for the 2025-2026 program year is “I Belong.”

Students submit their completed works in one or more arts categories: Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography, and Visual Arts. Multiple submissions are welcome! See category specific rules.

Anderson High School entries will be judged in a blind process, and selected entries will move on to the Texas PTA level. Entries chosen from Texas PTA Reflections will move on in the process, where they may be chosen for state-wide and national honors.  It's a great way to showcase your creativity (and looks good on your resume!).

The google form for submission is HERE.  Linked in the google form is the PTSA submission form as rules and other details.  And don’t forget: Students and/or a Family Member must be a current Anderson PTSA member for the 2025-2026 School Year by the November 7th entry deadline.

HERE are the CATEGORY SPECIFIC RULES

Trojan Golf

The Anderson Golf Team had a busy and successful week, with both the Trojan Girls and Trojan Boys competing at Lions Municipal Golf Course.

The Trojan Girls took part in the 9th Annual Joy Riley Tournament, where the team of Elle Ehlert, Lola Selberg, Sophie Janicki, Zoe Wessels, and Kinley Bunch brought home a 2nd place finish with a strong team score of 400. Elle Ehlert led the way, tying for the low round of the day with an impressive 89.

Meanwhile, the Trojan Boys competed in the 16th Annual Don Beaver Tournament and also earned a 2nd place team finish, firing an outstanding 295. The team consisted of Drew Gilley, Thomas Ashy, Sam Woodberry, Cash Hernandez, and Stephen Eidson.

It was a standout day for several individuals as well — Drew Gilley finished as the 2nd place medalist with a round of 69, Josh Mazar placed 3rd with a 73, and Sam Woodberry secured 5th with a 74.

Congratulations to all of our Trojan golfers for an excellent week of competition and continued hard work!

Anderson Sailing Club

The past two years that the Sailing Club has been active we have slowly grown our membership and built a racing team that competes at various regattas throughout the year. As we grow, so has our success in races. We recently won the Texas Great Oaks Qualifiers in Corpus Christi, qualifying Anderson for the 2025 AllState Sugar Bowl Great Oaks National Invitational in New Orleans which we plan to compete in on November 22-23. Additionally, this past weekend (November 1-2) we won the 2025 Texas High School State Championship, crowning Anderson as the 2025 High School Sailing State Champs. We competed and won against local schools like Lake Travis and Magellan from Austin in addition to schools from all over Texas.
