Hello everyone!
It was a great week in Trojan country!
One very fun thing that our admin team was able to do this week was to start getting into classrooms! That's the highlight of our jobs - getting into classrooms, seeing our teachers in their element, and seeing our students engaging. Students: expect to see us a lot!
Also, yesterday we had our first coffee with the principal, and it was so great to see everyone. Thanks to all of you who made it - I'm very excited to work with our PTSA president, Julie Choyce, to make sure we have guest speakers so that we can get the community amazing information. (Also, join PTSA and subscribe to the Trojan Times!)
Earlier this week, I sent out district consent forms. These forms are INCREDIBLY important for you to fill out. They all stem from Senate Bill 12, which requires us to get WRITTEN parental consent before certain services. If you haven't done so yet, please fill out these forms as soon as possible. They're really quick and easy.
Mental Health-Related Services
The district must notify parents of staff services related to school counseling and give parents the opportunity to opt out before those services are provided to their child.
Physical Health-Related Services
Certain school-based health services, such as non-emergency medical screenings or treatments, now require your written permission.

Participation in school-sponsored Student Clubs
If your child wishes to participate in school or district-sponsored clubs or organizations, parental approval is required. (You may have already received and completed this form if it was previously sent by your school.)

As I wrote in my opening paragraph, this week we had our first Coffee with the Principal. This week, our guest was Sal Salinas, who is the construction superintendent for our bond construction projects. He gave us a great update on our two projects (the secure vestibule/front office remodel and our new athletic facility).
One cool thing he told everyone about was the project website, where they will post updates and pictures as the process moves along. It's pretty cool! You can check it out at TrojanGym2026.com
I know I mentioned devices last week, but I want to include some more information just so everyone is very aware! I will say, This week, we noticed a definite downward trend with the amount of devices we are confiscating, which is great news! I hope this is the last time I mention devices in the newsletter, but there are two trends we noticed this week that we want to address.
1) Each time a device is confiscated counts toward their overall count. So, if you have your student has their airpods taken one day, and then they get their phone taken the next day, their phone will count as the second violation of the personal device policy. Be mindful of that!
2) As I've confiscated devices, I get a lot of reasons why a student is using their device, but, by far, the most common thing I hear is, "I was just checking the time!" Usually this has varying levels of truth to it, but I also want to remind families that the only watches that are banned are smart watches or fitness trackers that connect to bluetooth or transfer data. So, if your student is having a difficult time not accessing their device to check the time, regular old digital watches are allowed!
Also, just to put a fine point on it, I wanted to address the discipline matrix right here. In all cases where we see a student using their device, the device will be confiscated, taken to the main office (which is currently in the library), logged, and a referral will be written. Here are the aspects that change for each device confiscation:
1st offense - The student may pick up the device at the end of the school day after verifying ownership.
2nd offense - Only a parent/guardian may pick up the device at the end of the school day after verifying ownership.
3rd offense - Only the parent/guardian may pick up the device the next school day after verifying ownership or the parent may schedule a conference with the designated campus personnel to create a plan in order to retrieve the device earlier.
4th offense - Only the parent/guardian may pick up the device, after verifying ownership, after 48 hours or the parent must schedule a conference with the designated campus personnel to create a plan in order to retrieve the device earlier.
If you're looking for a quiet place to study and receive help on academic work, you have access to free tutoring from Anderson teachers and NHS tutors TUESDAYS and THURSDAYS in the library from 4:45 to 6:00.
After tutoring, there is a late bus that will take students home. Students MUST be in the tutoring center in order to ride the late bus home. Bus stops for the late bus are listed below.
