Hello everyone! Just a few more weeks until Spring Break!
Enroll Austin General Registration is NOW OPEN for the 2026-2027 school year. Both student registration and the income verification form must be completed each year, even if your child attended our school last year. Completing student registration ensures your child can fully participate in all school activities and services. Enroll Austin can be accessed through your parent portal or by visiting austinisd.org/enroll.
I don't have much for you this week in my message - we're entering into the heart of testing season, so just make sure you read your emails so our kids are prepared! A reminder: SAT TEST FOR JUNIORS ON TUESDAY, MARCH 3RD!
Also as one quick reminder: Please do NOT drop your students off in the staff parking lot off of Cima Serena. It ends up causing a lot of traffic jams and safety issues. Please mind the signs that are posted that say for students to not be dropped off. |

Black History Month Spotlight |
For Black History Month, the Community Club here at Anderson will be sharing short blurbs about notable Black figures every week. This week, they would love to share with you about Ernie Mae Miller.
February 27, 1927 - December 9, 2010
Ernie Mae Miller was born in Austin Texas, where she attended Anderson high school, which was named after grandfather. She learned to play the piano from a very young age, learning her first piece at just five years old. When she started high school she learned to play the baritone saxophone since the school didn’t need a piano player. During World War II she played the saxophone in the Prairie View Co-eds, an all-girls African American swing band at Prairie View A&M. She became famous as a pianist in the early 1950s due to performing jazz at the New Orleans Club for an extended period of time. During her music career she released two albums and performed at many notable spots.
A side note from Mr. Lancaster: As we wrap up Black History Month, I hope everyone has appreciated the focus our students have had on the specific history of notable Black Austinites. I want to give a huge thank you to Mossi Rickards for helping put these bios together.
I'd also like to share with you two PBS videos for those of you who wish to learn more. One delves further into the topic of civil rights in Austin, and one focuses specifically on the earlier iterations of Anderson High School and their roles in desegregation in Austin.

School-based SAT for Juniors - March 3, 2026 |
Free SAT School Day for Juniors – March 3, 2026
All Anderson juniors will take the SAT during the school day on Tuesday, March 3, 2026. Students are automatically registered, and there is no cost to families.
The SAT is an important part of 11th grade. Scores may be used for college admissions, scholarship consideration, and to meet Texas Success Initiative (TSI) college-readiness exemptions and CCMR Markers.
Students have already performed Bluebook app checks in English 3 classes. Students were given access to free practice resources via the SAT Toolkit in January.
On test day, juniors will receive their room assignments at school. Students may bring a light snack, a water bottle, and an optional SAT-approved calculator. Students in grades 9, 10, and 12 will follow a normal school day schedule. |
